RB Leipzig Apologizes To Japanese Fans After Kicking Them Out Of Stadium Over Coronavirus Fears

It was a weekend the Bundesliga would like to forget. Multiple banners from supporters caused games to stop, and now a group of Japanese fans is being issued an apology after security removed them from RB Leipzig's stadium over fears of coronavirus.

One of the Japanese fans who was removed tweeted about the events that took place. The tweet has since been deleted but read:

“Due to Corona, Japanese group guests were evacuated from the Bundesliga match 15 minutes after the start. On the way home, a German security I was told ‘I’m sorry.’ It’s not anyone’s fault… But leaving the stadium in the enthusiasm of cheer is too sad…”

On Monday, RB Leipzig issued a club statement and apology to the Japanese fans removed from the match. The club said it made a mistake handling the situation and wants to invite the fans to the next home game.

The spreading of coronavirus has many clubs and leagues on edge. Serie A officials are meeting on Wednesday to discuss the possible cancellation of the Italian league.

In Japan there are over 200 confirmed cases of the virus while Germany has over 100. A map tracking the spread of the virus around the world can be found here.

The Bundesliga has not yet said if it will follow the guide of Serie A and try to either play matches behind closed doors or postpone them all together.

The game between RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday ended in a 1-1 draw.
