Watch: Shocking brawl during South Dakota high school soccer game sees police get involved

Less of a brawl and more of a one-sided attack.

Viral video of a South Dakota soccer fight during a high school game has seen police get involved with the incident.

The game between Brookings and Rapid City Central was momentarily suspended prior to halftime due to a vicious attack. Rapid City Central's Jaxson Bergman was the offender and red card recipient following a shocking head loss that saw him repeatedly punching an opponent in the head.

Brookings police are investigating the incident for possible assault. The South Dakota High School Activities Association has also condemned the incident.

"It was a completely unacceptable action. There's no place for it in sports or anywhere else. I'll be working with both schools through the situation," SDHSAA Executive Director Dan Swartos said.

Bergman’s red card comes with a one-game suspension and a sportsmanship course requirement, but time will tell if he faces legal consequences for his action.

The game was delayed for 10 minutes following the fight and Brookings went on to win the game.
