Man City players cover costs for 374 fans who watched them lose 3-1 in the Arctic Circle

Man City suffered a stunning defeat in Norway.

Over 350 Manchester City fans will be getting their money back after making the journey to Bodo, Norway, to see their club shockingly lose 3-1.

Pep Guardiola’s City side were blindsided with an upset in the Champions League on Tuesday as Norway’s Bodo/Glimt defeated the English giants rather easily. The City players are taking accountability and have chipped in nearly $12,500 to reimburse their traveling supporters.

The brave City fans who made the journey to the Arctic Circle from Manchester had to travel over 1,000 miles to get to the town of Bodo. During the game temperatures were sub-freezing… as was the performance from Guardiola’s side.

Man City’s leadership group consisting of Erling Haaland, Bernardo Silva, Rodri and Rúben Dias released a statement/apology to the faithful fans who traveled.

"We know the sacrifice that our fans make when they travel across the world to support us home and away and we will never take it for granted. They are the best fans in the world.

"We also recognize that it was a lot of travelling for the fans who supported us in the freezing cold throughout a difficult evening for us on the pitch. Covering the cost of these tickets for the fans who travelled to Bodø is the least we can do.”

City’s defeat stemmed from an inexperienced center-back pairing of 20-year-old Max Alleyne and Abdukodir Khusanov. Alleyne was playing on loan for Watford in the EFL Championship earlier this season and made his Champions League debut in Bodo.

Rodri’s red card in the second half cemented the frigid defeat that City will wish to forget.

The defeat to Bodo/Glimt puts City at risk of falling out of the top-eight in the Champions League table. As a reminder, the clubs who finish in the top eight of the UCL league phase advance directly to the Round of 16.
