The 2021 Puskás Award Is Down To 3 Sizzling Finalists That The18 Somehow Failed To Predict

FIFA has narrowed down the best goal of 2021 — or the Puskás award as it’s commonly known as — to three finalists. The 2021 Puskás award will be won by one of the following three players.

2021 Puskás Award Finalists

  • Erik Lamela’s Rabona Goal vs. Arsenal
  • Mehdi Taremi’s Bicycle Kick vs. Chelsea
  • Patrik Schick’s Goal From Midfield vs. Scotland

Lamela Rabona

Taremi Bicycle Kick

Schick From Midfield

The winner will be announced on Jan. 17 during the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony.

Somehow, we at The18 didn’t dub these three goals as Puskás worthy when they happened. Ironically, all three of The18’s English writers wrote about one of the three Puskás finalists, but the word “Puskás” wasn’t written in any of the three articles.

Taremi’s bicycle kick was described as “the best goal that will be scored in the Champions League this year.”

Lamela’s rabona was prefaced with “holy Ødegaard, you’ve never seen a shot quite like this one.”

Schick’s goal was given the honor of “one of the greatest goals ever scored at the European championship.

Do these guys at The18 just not use the word Puskás or something? That would be an incorrect statement as eight articles were written that dubbed goals as 2021 Puskás contenders. Therefore, I present to you the goals that The18 incorrectly guessed as 2021 Puskás award contenders.

The18's Failed 2021 Puskás Award Candidates

Fabio Martins Cheeky Finish

Mizak Asante Solo Run

Armand Lauriente 40-Yard Free Kick

Sunday League Bicycle Kick

Nadiem Amiri Double Nutmeg

Vida Backheel Goal

Eli Sam’s Scorpion Kick

Zaccagni Bicycle Kick

In all fairness to us, in The18’s end of the year awards article we did have Lamela’s rabona and Schick’s goal from distance as candidates for goal of the year. We weren’t completely wrong.

My prediction for the 2021 Puskás award winner is Lamela’s rabona
