Watch: Trinity Rodman Emma Hayes dance celebration explained by USWNT head coach

Hayes and Rodman hit the "Sexy Dexy" dance.

The Trinity Rodman Emma Hayes dance celebration against Chile on Tuesday was a viral moment during the United States’ 5-0 victory.

Rodman came on as a substitute in the second half and had an immediate impact scoring the team’s fifth goal in superb fashion. The Washington Spirit star then raced over to the sideline and danced with Hayes.

The dance in question is known as the “Sexy Dexy” which was popularized by the New York Giants’ Dexter Lawrence.

After the game Hayes sat down with TNT Sports and explained the backstory of doing the celebration. Rodman had scored in the USWNT’s previous friendly against Paraguay on Saturday and tried to get Hayes to do the dance. She refused.

After some good old-fashioned peer pressure and dance lessons from USWNT defender Tara Rudd, Hayes was prepared for round two against Chile.

“I was dying. I was dying. But listen, these players keep me young. I’m not complaining,” Hayes said about the celebration.

It’s clear that spirits are high with Hayes and the national team. The 2026 calendar year will provide plenty of work for Hayes as she determines who she will want on her 2027 World Cup roster.

World Cup qualification will take place in November at the 2026 Conacaf W Championship.
