Denis Cheryshev Sends Russia Into Raptures With Glorious Goal

Harry Kane better watch his back. After the Denis Cheryshev goal vs Croatia, Russia’s upstart winger is hot on the heels of England’s penalty kick master.

The final quarterfinal match of the 2018 World Cup saw Croatia take on the host nation in Sochi on Saturday. A fairly even opening half hour saw Croatia take most of the possession but Russia looked dangerous on the counter.

The crowd was amped after a stirring national anthem and in the 31st minute, the Cheryshev goal vs Croatia sent the home crowd into a frenzy. A clever give-and-go with Artem Dzyuba gave the Villarreal midfielder just enough space to curl in this beautiful effort.

The Cheryshev goal vs Croatia was his fourth of the tournament, putting him in a tie for second place in the Golden Boot race. England couldn’t draw a penalty kick against Sweden earlier Saturday, so Kane stayed put on six goals, two ahead of Cheryshev, Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Unfortunately for the home fans, Croatia was able to equalize about eight minutes later when Andrej Kramaric headed in an equalizer. Mario Mandzukic played the type of pass his possible future teammate Ronaldo would love to be the recipient of to earn the assist.

The teams went into halftime tied 1-1, but Russia had the lead when it comes to golazos.
