Weston McKennie is on Cloud 9 after scoring a fabulous scissor kick goal against Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday. His biggest haters, Leeds United fans, appear to be in shambles on social media.
After Wednesday's game McKennie did an interview with CBS and was asked by Micah Richards about his loan spell with Leeds United.
If you’re out of the loop, McKennie went on loan to Leeds at the end of the 2022-23 season to link up with fellow American Tyler Adams. The loan spell was a disaster as Leeds were relegated, McKennie didn’t play well and the fans used him as their scapegoat.
It’s been nearly two years since then and the Leeds fans still cry about it to this day.
“Leeds as a club and the people within the club I liked,” McKennie said after Wednesday’s game. “The city itself and the surroundings was a little bit hard, it was always gray. I had a sunlight window in my house and there was never any sun coming through.”
The Leeds faithful weren’t pleased about that answer.

As shit as going down was, the whole ground singing "you fat bastard" to our own player as he was subbed off is genuinely one of my all time favourite Elland Road moments https://t.co/hIGYK2nbJK

The best analogy I can give about Leeds fans is that they’re a lot like mosquitoes. They follow you around everywhere and they usually suck.
Did the people who chanted "you fat bastard" at McKennie expect the American to say he loved his time at Leeds?
USMNT fans and Leeds supporters had a major falling out as the latter have made it a point to hate on McKennie and Adams long after they’ve left the club. Fans will literally stalk the USMNT players’ Instagrams or their current clubs’ accounts to leave angry comments about the players.
It’s humorous that Leeds fans are calling McKennie a “shit player” while he’s scoring scissor kicks against Man City in the Champions League and they’re *checks notes* playing Preston North End on Saturday.

McKennie hasn’t responded to the Leeds haters as he probably can’t hear them over the sound of the Champions League anthem. A song that Leeds fans haven’t heard in nearly 24 years.
