Soccer Player With Shattered Finger Hits Half-Court Shot For $10,000 In Tuition Money

Apparently, Bryan College senior Gustavo Angel Tamayo has more than just soccer skills.

The senior soccer player for the Dayton, Tennessee university hit an incredible four shots in a row on the basketball court in under 30 seconds - including a lay up, a free throw, a three-pointer, and a half-court bomb - to win $10,000 in tuition money. And, as if that wasn't hard enough, he did it all without ever having played basketball before, and with a broken finger.

"It's just football, that's all I do," Tamayo said. "And I had a broken finger on my left hand."

Tamayo, a native of England, actually shattered his finger playing soccer. It clearly didn't impede his ability to complete this challenge.

"I'm not sure there's a tougher contest," said Don Rekoske, the basketball coach at Bryan College. "He had to go four for four, and you have to be hurried to make it within 30 seconds. It's a very tough contest to win, but when you win you get paid for it. He won $10,000; some will probably go toward his school bill and some in his pocket."

Some of the money may also end up in the pockets of his friends. As a college senior, Tamayo's tuition costs are likely already paid. And so he generously suggested he may give away some of the money. "Everyone wants a piece of the pie, so I guess I'm just going to hand out $1 bills," he said.

No matter what, mom and dad are pretty proud, says Tamayo.

"My mom started crying, Dad was overwhelmed. Right now it’s a great blessing."
