NEW CLUB, SAME BRANDON — Brandon Vázquez scores goal in Liga MX home debut with Monterrey

Brandon Vázquez scored and made his Liga MX home debut with new club Monterrey in their league clash against Querétaro on Wednesday night.

The former FC Cincinnati man started his first game with Rayados at the Estadio BBVA after just his second game with the club. He made his official league debut off the bench last Sunday in their 2-0 win over Santos Laguna.

This time around, Vázquez was chosen by manager Tano Ortíz as the main man in charge of scoring the team's goals and, of course, he did just that.

At the 41st minute, a curled cross into the box, found by the USMNT striker in between the set of defenders, ended up in the back of the net after a solid anticipated header to open the scoring at the Gigante de Acero. New club, same Brandon goals.

The 25-year-old scored his first goal for Rayados since signing for the club earlier this January for a reported $7.5 million.

The striker’s debut goal would turn out bittersweet as Monterrey would lose the lead given by Vázquez to a late Gallos Blancos goal in the closing minutes of the game, stunning the home side in a 1-1 draw.

“Happy to have scored but discontent about the result!” said Vásquez on Instagram. “We deserved more but we keep growing,” he added.

Vázquez and Monterrey will continue their high-aspiration season against Átletico San Luis on Saturday, a game the American striker is expected to get his second consecutive start in.
