Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic caught some flak during his side’s 2-2 draw vs. Inter Milan on Wednesday when he shoved over one of the opposing ball boys. A Stanisic apology was issued for the incident.
Late in the contest with Inter leading 4-3 on aggregate, the ball went out for a throw in with Stanisic the nearest to it. In a sneaky attempt to waste some of Bayern’s precious seconds, the Inter ball boy rolled the game ball away from Stanisic.
The 25-year-old retaliated to the stunt by pushing the youngster off his seat and onto his back.
Josip Stanisic apology for ball boy incident
"Every team in the world wastes time when they're leading," Stanisic told German newspaper Abenzeitung after the game. "It was a bit stupid of me to push him there."
Stanisic received a chorus of boos from the fans inside San Siro, however he didn’t receive any punishment from the referee.
Here’s the bad part of me speaking: Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Being a little brat and wasting time comes with consequences.
I’m not saying what Stanisic did was right, but the ball boy — who looks to be a bit on the older side — had it coming a little bit. Thankfully Stanisic didn’t go full Eden Hazard and kick the kid in the ribs.
If ball boys want to waste time they’re free to do so, but reap what you sow gentlemen. I’m sure someone reading this will highly disagree with the idea of professional athletes shoving children.
