A Cristiano Ronaldo Ligue 1 comment is making the rounds on social media after the Al Nassr star forward said the Saudi Pro League is superior to France’s top flight. He then doubled down and said that Ligue 1 only has PSG, and the rest of the league is “finished.”
The comments were made during the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, UAE, on Friday. Ronaldo, who was named Best Middle East Player 2024 at the award show, was asked about where the Saudi League ranks compared to a league like France’s Ligue 1.
CR7 didn’t hold back.

“The French league (worse than the Saudi league)? Easy!” Ronaldo said.
“I don’t say that because I play in Saudi Arabia. I don’t care what people are thinking, but they should go there (Saudi Arabia) to play there and see. To run in 38, 39 and 40 degrees (104 degrees Fahrenheit) and sprint a few times to see.
“Don’t believe in my words. Go there and see,” Ronaldo said.
The host, Amanda Davies, then appeared to try and change gears to ask Ronaldo if he’d have interest in purchasing a Saudi club. Ronaldo instead doubled down and attacked the teams in Ligue 1.
“All there is in France is PSG. The rest is finished,” Ronaldo said.
“It’s my opinion. I don’t care what they say. France is only PSG I’m sorry.
“The other clubs compete, but PSG is the strongest. Nobody competes with them. They have better players, they’re the club with more money, this is a fact,” Ronaldo said.
It seems Ronaldo might’ve forgot that Lille won Ligue 1 just four seasons ago. That being said, PSG have won 10 of the last 12 Ligue 1 seasons.
