Bruce Arena’s New England Revs Break MLS Single-Season Points Record

Tajon Buchanan scored the lone goal and the New England Revolution broke the MLS record for points in a season by notching a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday night at Foxborough, Mass.

Buchanan's tally in the 74th minute helped the Revolution (22-4-7) improve their point total to 73, one more than the mark set by Los Angeles FC in 2019.

New England goalkeeper Matt Turner made four saves to notch his fifth shutout of the campaign. The Revolution are 7-0-3 over their past 10 matches.

Goalkeeper William Yarbrough had six saves for the Rapids (15-7-10, 55 points). Colorado entered the contest with the second-most points in the Western Conference, tied with Sporting Kansas City.

Buchanan scored the lone goal after receiving a pass from Adam Buksa. He dribbled around a defender to the right and sent a right-footed shot to the back side that easily eluded Yarbrough.

The Rapids pushed the pace to try to knot the score but came up empty.

Colorado's Michael Barrios had a chance to tie it with a right-footed shot in the 84th minute, but Turner easily made the save.

In the 89th minute, Barrios sent a cross toward the net with two Rapids on the scene, but the play was broken up.

The Revolution had an 19-12 edge in shots.

The Rapids had a solid opportunity in the 34th minute, but they were stymied by Turner.

Cole Bassett unleashed a hard right-footed shot and Turner was able to get his right hand on the ball to knock it away.

Buchanan had three chances in a 14-minute span of the second half, coming up empty on the first two attempts.

In the 60th minute, Buchanan sent a right-footed shot toward the right corner of the net, and Yarbrough made the save.

Eleven minutes later, Buchanan delivered a left-footed shot that was just wide of the right post.

In the 72nd minute, the ball caromed to the Revolution's Henry Kessler, who sent a left-footed shot toward the net. It went directly toward Yarbrough, who made the save with his right leg.

Two minutes later, Buchanan scored the goal that allowed New England to set the points record.
