Mexico Young Guns Shine In First Round Of World Cup Qualifiers

Mexico is off to an auspicious start in its World Cup qualifying group, defeating El Salvador at home 3-0 and Honduras away 2-0. What will come as a pleasant surprise to Mexico fans is how well El Tri's youngsters have played in the two games.

Everyone knows how good Jesus "Tecatito" Corona can be, the Porto winger having flashed his considerable potential on numerous occasions, but his goal to put Mexico ahead of Honduras on Tuesday was something special.

While the eyes of the world were focused on Wembley Stadium, where France and England spit in the eye of those who would seek to destroy our way of life, Tecatito reminded us how much fun soccer is.

Jurgen Damm, on the other hand, has flown a little under the radar, El Tri-wise. Although he is considered one of the fastest footballers alive (look for no further proof than this link), he didn't make the Mexico squad for the Gold Cup or the Confederations Cup playoff. Has has performed well with his club, Tigres, which earned him a call-up.

He announced himself with aplomb, though, scoring the second goal against Honduras, a goal that is sure to have El Tri fans salivating.

Speaking of Mexico vs. Honduras, no we will not be showing video of Garrido's injury. Go away.

In Mexico's first game, the veterans carried the day. Captain Andres Guardado, Hector Herrera and Carlos Vela scored in that game. It was Vela's first World Cup qualifier since before the 2010 World Cup.

Juan Carlos Osorio's squad is on the right track in their group, but the real test will come later.
