Phil Foden recreates Ronaldinho’s ‘Golden Shoes’ in ad for the new Nike Air Max 95

The first video in YouTube history to hit 1 million views was Ronaldinho’s “Golden Shoes” Nike advertisement. Back in the days when JogaTV ruled YouTube, a video featuring Eric Cantona and Ronaldinho broke the internet.

Fans, and 7-year-old me at the time, sat in disbelief as Ronaldinho would juggle a ball, shoot it off the crossbar multiple times and keep juggling all while it never touched the ground. I was too young to understand what special effects were, so I thought for the longest time that the video was real.

Almost 17 years to the day, Manchester City star Phil Foden has recreated Ronaldinho’s video in another Nike advertisement. London-based streetwear brand Corteiz (also known as Crtz) has teamed up with Nike for the upcoming release of the CORTEIZ x Nike Air Max 95.

The latest campaign video for the shoe features Foden wearing the new kicks and recreating Ronaldinho’s iconic viral hit. The “JogaTV” logo even pops up in the top right of the video in a nostalgic callback.

Foden isn’t the first soccer player who has been part of the CORTEIZ x Nike Air Max 95 ad campaign. Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga featured in a crossbar challenge video while wearing the shoes.
