Watch: Brazilian Player Has A Macaw Land On Her Head During Training

An unreal scene took place during a training session for the Brazil women’s national team when a macaw landed on the head of defender Bruna Benites. No, it was not during a match despite nearly every sports media outlet saying so.

Come on guys, if it was a match, then where's the other team?

The wild encounter took place in Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro, which is also known as the home for Brazil’s national teams because of the training ground. Benites took the opportunity to spread awareness on social media about the horrific fires taking place in the Pantanal wetlands of Brazil. (Pantanal is the world’s largest tropical wetland.)

Benites was born in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, which is experiencing the worst of the Pantanal fires. Benites said on social media that taking care of nature is vital.

“Taking advantage of what happened today, I, as a native of Mato Grosso, could not help expressing my feelings of deep sadness for everything that has been happening in the Pantanal,” Benites wrote. “Thousands of animals are losing their lives to the fires and if this continues to happen, rare scenes like the one you are seeing in this video will become impossible to be seen. Let us be aware! Let’s take care of our greatest asset, which is nature!”

Fires in the Pantanal region have burned an estimated 24,000 square kilometers, which is roughly 6 million acres. As a comparison, all of the combined fires on the west coast of the U.S. have burned just over 5 million acres.
