Watch: Club América player scores early 2025 Puskás Award contender to send club to Liga MX final

Liga MX’s Club América and Cruz Azul played what is arguably one of the most entertaining matches of the 2024/25 season, with Las Águilas coming out on top with an incredible 4-3 scoreline to seal their ticket to the Apertura 2024 final.

They will face CF Monterrey in what will be their third straight final, looking to win a three-peat for the first time in league history.

It’s going to to be nuts.

The game definitely took a turn, however, at the start of the second half, when Club América’s Richard Sánchez picked up the ball a few yards ahead of his own half, taking a quick glance at Cruz Azul’s Kevin Mier and pulling the trigger from over 40 yards out. And boy did he execute that chance.

The Paraguayan midfielder surprised all of the 36,000 fans in attendance at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, side-netting an outrageous long shot to double the azulcremas lead.

Wow. Just wow.

This screamer was only one of the six goals scored by the clubs in the second half, with a last-minute penalty sending América into the final. Uruguayan international Rodrigo Aguirre put the penalty away.

One man that took over the game, but on social media, was Mexico and Club América legend, Cuauhtémoc Blanco.

The former El Tri attacker was a special guest during Televisa’s broadcast and was vividly showing his support for his boyhood club, having a hilarious reaction to the first goal of the night.

You can’t hate ‘El Cuauh.’

América will now prepare their match up against Rayados, with the first leg being played this Thursday, Dec. 12 and the second leg being played on Sunday, Dec. 15.
