France's Antoine Griezmann Named Euro 2016 Player Of The Tournament

France's Antoine Griezmann collected the Euro 2016 Golden Boot by scoring six goals, to go along with two assists, and he was also named the player of the tournament by UEFA’s technical observers.

The France attacker was simply sensational throughout the tournament’s knockout rounds, scoring five goals in matches against the Republic of Ireland, Iceland and Germany. His performances captured the hearts and minds of the French public, catapulting the hosts into the final against Portugal.

Unfortunately for France and Griezmann, the French forward was unable to add to his tally against Portugal despite having a couple of fantastic opportunities.

Regardless of his inability to find the net against Portugal, Griezmann made French supporters forget all about the absence of Karim Benzema as he led the French attack with pace, finesse and quality.

The Atletico Madrid star is currently being watched by the world’s biggest clubs, including Arsenal, but he’s signed a new and improved deal to keep him with Atletico until 2021.

Griezmann was of course included in the UEFA Team of the Tournament. UEFA opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation for the team: Rui Patrício (Portugal); Joshua Kimmich (Germany), Jérôme Boateng (Germany), Pepe (Portugal), Raphaël Guerreiro (Portugal); Toni Kroos (Germany), Joe Allen (Wales); Antoine Griezmann (France), Aaron Ramsey (Wales), Dimitri Payet (France); Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal).

Portugal led all countries with four players on the team. Germany had three players make the team while France had two.

The best XI left no room for Gareth Bale. Portugal’s Renato Sanches was named the Young Player of the Tournament. The 18-year-old also became the youngest ever winner of a European Championship.
