Tim Weah set for Juventus transfer with medical scheduled this week

USMNT winger Tim Weah is moving closer and closer to a permanent transfer from Lille to Juventus with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Italian club wants to complete the medical and get the contract signed by the end of the week.

The 23-year-old is fresh off a standout year for his national team. He started all four matches at the World Cup (scoring in the opener against Wales) and just recently started both Concacaf Nations League Finals games (assisting vs. Mexico).

While Weah's made the right wing his own for country, his 2022-23 campaign with Lille saw him shifted to primarily playing fullback. He finished the season with 29 Ligue 1 appearances and two assists while the team finished fifth.

But having that versatility is never a bad thing in the fight to get minutes at Europe's biggest clubs, and Juventus saw enough to reportedly offer around $13 million after Lille bought him from PSG for $11 million back in 2019.

There's a big chance that Weah will return to his favored attacking position in Turin after Juventus let veterans Juan Cuadrado and Ángel Di María go, so Massimiliano Allegri will certainly welcome the Brooklyn native's arrival.

Weah also joins forces with compatriot Weston McKennie at Juventus Stadium. McKennie is back at Juve after his loan to Leeds (his contract runs through 2025), although AS Roma and several Premier League sides (Newcastle, Aston Villa, Brighton) are reportedly interested in the 24-year-old.

"I would certainly see Weah doing well at Juventus," USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter recently told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "And I'm sure that an experience in Italy and at Juventus, who we've come to know better and better in recent years thanks to McKennie, would be useful for Timothy. He is a growing boy, also thanks to Lille, but I think the winning mentality of Juventus would allow him to make a further leap forward."

There's a chance that Juventus could become this season's Major Leeds Soccer — Christian Pulisic is also reportedly of interest to the Old Lady but AC Milan have also flirted with the idea of capturing Captain America.
