Seattle Sounders thrashes Inter Miami to win Leagues Cup; brawl breaks out at final whistle

They've got Paul Rothrock, baby!

The Seattle Sounders capped off a historic night at Lumen Field with a commanding 3-0 victory over Inter Miami in the 2025 Leagues Cup final on Saturday night.

In front of a raging home crowd, the Rave Green outclassed Lionel Messi’s side to clinch their first-ever Leagues Cup title and, in doing so, became the first MLS club to win every major trophy available.

Inter Miami, the reigning Supporters’ Shield holders, stumbled had a shaky start in defense and left the door open for young striker Osaze De Rosario, who nodded home a free header to give Seattle the lead.

Messi showed only brief flashes of brilliance in the first half, with a slick exchange with Seattle’s Pedro de la Vega being the most notable highlight.

The second half saw Miami push forward desperately. Both Messi and Tadeo Allende squandered golden chances to equalize, each misfiring in front of goal.

Seattle took full advantage of the lifeline, as a clumsy foul in the box by Georgi Minoungou allowed Alex Roldan to bury a penalty, effectively sealing the result. With Miami chasing the game late, Paul Rothrock delivered the dagger, slotting home a low-driven strike to complete the 3-0 scoreline.

Sounders fans were able to “cash-in” a Rothrock jersey in the hours leading up to the match “for free,” as the club gave out his jersey in exchange for an Inter Miami Lionel Messi jersey. This after Sounder head coach had a viral quote comparing Rothrock and Messi in the days leading up to the match.
