Ukraine advanced in the UEFA World Cup playoffs on Wednesday at the expense of Scotland with a 3-1 victory. Ukraine looked comfortable for a majority of the game, but a late push from Scotland made for an exhilarating finish. This John McGinn miss vs. Ukraine could have changed everything.
With Ukraine up 2-0 and dominating the game, Scotland had a golden opportunity in the 67th minute when McGinn had the ball float perfectly to his head. Ukraine goalkeeper Heorhiy Bushchan didn’t have a great performance and set McGinn up perfectly after not being able to hold on to the ball.
While there was some traffic in McGinn’s way, the Aston Villa man will have wished he put this one away.
McGinn Miss vs Ukraine
Scotland hasn’t been to a World Cup since 1998 and will have to wait a little longer. The hosts did eventually score courtesy of another Bushchan mistake in the 79th minute.
Despite a valiant push for an equalizer, Scotland couldn’t find a second goal and Ukraine made it 3-1 in the final seconds.
