Ousmane Dembélé winning the 2025 Ballon d’Or didn’t sit right with everyone with the father of runner-up Lamine Yamal being one of the most vocal.
Mounir Nasraou, Yamal’s father, was irate that his 18-year-old son didn’t become the award’s youngest winner in history on Monday. Nasraou went as far as to say that Yamal not winning the award was incredibly disrespectful.

Nasraou didn’t want to say that Dembélé’s triumph was a robbery, but he may as well have said it with his fiery tirade about the 2025 award.
"I think this is the biggest, I won't say theft, but moral damage done to a human being because I believe Lamine Yamal is the best player in the world by far, by a huge margin," Yamal’s father said.
"It's not because he's my son but because he's the best player in the world. I believe there are no rivals. Lamine is Lamine Yamal. Something very strange has happened here. Next year there will be a Spanish Ballon d'Or winner."

Does anyone want to tell Nasraou that there was a Spanish Ballon d’Or winner this year and that her name is Aitana Bonmatí? In fact, Spain has dominated the award in recent years with Bonmatí winning the previous three on the women’s side and Manchester City midfielder Rodri receiving the 2024 award.
Yamal still made history as the only player to win the Kopa Trophy twice. The Kopa recognizes the best U21 play in the world and has been claimed by Yamal for the past two years.
It’s not unthinkable that the 18-year-old Spanish phenom could win the Kopa Trophy two more times. That likely won’t satisfy Nasraou who is certain that the 2026 Ballon d’Or will be held by his son.
