Jamie Carragher crosses line when suggesting Kate Abdo hasn’t been loyal to her boyfriend

The CBS Sports Champions League crew are always teasing one another and providing hilarious moments on camera, but a Jamie Carragher Kate Abdo joke went too far during Tuesday’s coverage.

Carragher, Abdo, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards provided their coverage and analysis from Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

The crew were doing a bit during the show where each of them had to wear an Arsenal jersey during the broadcast. Former Manchester City player Richards was the first to wear it before it was passed on to Liverpool great Carragher.

When Carragher elected Abdo to wear the Arsenal kit next, she refused saying she was “loyal to Manchester United.”

“Loyal to who? Not to Malik,” Carragher said referring to Abdo’s boyfriend and boxer Malik Scott.

The joke didn’t land as there was an awkward pause and no laughs.

Carragher tried to ease the tension saying that her unloyalty was in reference to not mentioning him during the show that night, however the damage had already been done.

The comment from Carragher has only fueled the rumor online that co-host Henry has a crush on Abdo. Fans make jokes nearly every broadcast about a love interest between Henry and Abdo. The Frenchman’s reaction to how she looked in 2007 was a prime example.

Henry is in a long-term relationship with Bosnian model Andrea Rajacic.

The next CBS broadcast of the Champions League with the crew will provide a better idea if there’s tension between the cast, if an apology is given or if it’s all water under the bridge.

Update: Carragher apologized and Abdo mentioned it on the Wednesday broadcast

Carragher has been hit with loads of backlash online with fans calling him “classless”, “shameless”, “disrespectful” and a “chauvinist twat” among other insults.
