The year 2020 is one that we will definitely not forget as it was filled with a global pandemic, mandated quarantine and everyone’s world turned upside down. As much as we would all like this year to be deleted, there are moments throughout the year that have actually positively impacted the way sports fans view women’s football, creating a bright future for these female ballers.
As the NWSL successfully became the first professional sports league to return to play after a global shutdown, viewership of NWSL games surpassed any past records that were currently in place. Hundreds of thousands of people tuned in to watch what may have been the only sporting event on TV and quickly grew an appreciation for what these women do day in and day out. Of course, they are still battling discrimination and gender inequality, but the current platform these women have to change the game and women’s sports is unmatched. The future is bright for female ballers in 2021, and as we are excited to progress forward let us reminisce over some great moments throughout 2020.
