There aren't many symbols in the footballing world that indicate "it's business time" quite like Marta's red lipstick or Cristiano Ronaldo's noodle hair, but Lionel Messi taking out the gold cleats is quickly getting there.
Messi wore gold adidas Adizero boots during the 2014-15 season, scored 58 goals across all competitions and Barcelona won the Treble. This past summer, Messi wore a pair of "El Retorno" X50 Speedflows and Argentina won the Copa América.
Now, as PSG prepares to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16, adidas is set to reveal a new Messi signature X Speedflow boot that shines like El Dorado.
What Cleats Does Messi Wear?
Messi currently wears adidas X Speedflow.1 cleats in "Sky Rush/Team Shock Pink/Cloud White," which retail for $250.
To coincide with the business end of the Champions League, Messi is set to get his own signature version of the adidas X Speedflow boots in the coming weeks.
The primary color is "Solar Gold" with bright yellow and black accents and three-stripes. The cleat's upper is scrawled with handwritten words — familia, nosotros, aficion, humilidad, team, respect — while the Messi logo appears on the heel and shining through the toe box.
The leak was first reported by @most_boots_qtr on Instagram and confirmed by Footy Headlines.
Lionel Messi Adidas Contract
Messi will be sporting adidas boots forever since he signed a lifetime contract with the company that reportedly earns him around $13 million annually.
