Didier Drogba Returns To Stamford Bridge, And It's For A Great Cause

For the first time in four years, one of Chelsea’s biggest stars will return to play at Stamford Bridge. On June 16, Didier Drogba will headline the 2019 Soccer Aid for Unicef, hosted at Stamford Bridge.

He will also be joined by England’s own Jamie and Harry Redknapp as well as Olympic legend Usain Bolt. This will be Drogba’s first appearance back home at the Bridge since 2015.

“I am very excited to be coming back to Stamford Bridge to play in Soccer Aid for Unicef," Drogba said. “I am passionate about all children having access to healthcare and education, which is key to Unicef’s work around the world. I’m delighted that my foundation and Unicef are planning a project together in Cote D’Ivoire. Together we can help make a real difference to so many children’s lives, and have a greater impact than ever before.”

The 41-year-old has been out of the game for just a year. He wrapped up his career with the USL's Phoenix Rising at the age of 40. In his time with Phoenix, Drogba showed little digression while netting 17 goals in 26 appearances.

Fans in London will be begging Drogba to return to the team, because why not? Chelsea desperately needs a leader. The Dark Knight may actually be the hero Stamford Bridge needs, but not the one it deserves.

Drogba has 164 career goals in a Blues jersey, one of which was the equalizer in the 2012 Champions League final.

The Ivory Coast native was on the end of a perfect corner, which he headed into the back of the net after tapping off Manuel Neuer’s gloves.

In a game where everything is so unpredictable and varying, this'll be a fantastic opportunity to recreate that very moment for Chelsea fans.

Even without it, a hero is still coming home.
