Christian Pulisic bags brace to add exclamation point to breakout season

Christian Pulisic found the back of the net twice during AC Milan’s 5-1 victory vs. Cagliari on Saturday for his 14th and 15th goals in his debut season

Despite being second in the league Milan haven’t had the best end to their season. The Italian side failed to win their previous six games, manager Stefano Pioli announced he’s leaving at the end of the season and the ultras are boycotting and not attending games at San Siro.

Despite the gloomy context, Pulisic got the Milan fans on their feet with a composed finish in the 59th minute. With Milan leading 1-0 the Rossoneri struck on the counter as Rafael Leão slipped a perfect through ball to put Pulisic one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Pulisic fired his shot in off the post to double Milan’s lead.

In the final minutes he struck again with a powerful strike that couldn’t be cleared off the line in time. Goal line technology confirmed that the goal stood.

Pulisic goals vs Cagliari

In recognition of Mother’s Day, the Milan players wore the last names of their mothers which is why Pulisic had “Harlow” on the back of his kit. He dedicated his second goal to his mom celebrating by pointing to the last name and making a heart into the camera.

Saturday’s goals moved his league tally to 12. Pulisic has scored 15 across all competitions. Only Olivier Giroud has more league goals for Milan with 14.

Saturday’s victory marked Milan’s first since April 6.

Pulisic will finish the season out with Milan before joining the United States men’s national team for two friendlies against Colombia (June 8) and Brazil (June 12) ahead of Copa América.
