The Force Was Not With Tijuana While Wearing Star Wars Uniforms

The Force was with Monterrey, not Tijuana on Friday night.

Tijuana collaborated with Star Wars for some pretty slick uniforms worn during Friday’s Liga MX match, but it was Monterrey who played like Jedis.

An early red card to Jordan Silva doomed the Xolos as the Rayados cruised to a vital 4-0 win.

But at least the Tijuana Star Wars Jerseys looked great.

Apropos of nothing more than a way to promote the upcoming release of The Rise of Skywalker (in theaters everywhere this December!), the Xolos donned red-and-black kits with the image of a stormtrooper on the front while the goalkeepers wore white shirts with a stormtrooper.

Tijuana Star Wars Jersey

Even better, the Tijuana Star Wars jersey was accompanied by some real life stormtroopers, flown in from the Star Destroyer Finalizer, we assume.

Here’s the Xolos starting lineup with some Star Wars music because of course.

Everything was great for Tijuana until the match actually started.

Jordan Silva’s 21st-minute red card was followed by the Rayados whipping up on Xolos like Rey and Kylo tearing through Snoke’s royal guards.

The result was huge for both clubs as Monterrey jumped ahead of Tijuana into eighth place, which grants the final spot into la Liguilla, with one match to play.

Something tells me these Tijuana Star Wars jerseys may not get to see the light of day again after this result. But then again, it’s hard to turn down that Star Wars cash.
