Lionel Messi is only the fifth best player in the world, according to FIFA. At least one LaLiga club would probably beg to differ after the Argentine set up this Philippe Coutinho goal vs Leganes on Wednesday.
In a midweek LaLiga match in the heart of Spain, facing the prospect of trying to break down a team with 10 men behind the ball, Barcelona took less than 12 minutes to score the game’s opening goal thanks to some magnificent dribbling and vision from Messi.
The Barça No. 10 received the ball close to midfield and went about on a mazy run, drawing five defenders to him. With Los Pepineros (the Cucumber Growers) fully focused on Messi, Coutinho was left wide open at the top of the box.
At first glance, the Brazilian appeared to miscontrol Messi’s pass. On second glance, holy shit!
The Coutinho goal vs Leganes came in the 12th minute and really only required Messi and Coutinho. The rest of the team could’ve just sat down and taken a break while the two magicians did their work.
Barcelona has yet to lose in league play, with one draw the only blemish to the Catalan club’s record.
