Didier Drogba Hilariously Steals Kid’s Drink, Sparks Late Comeback Victory

What was in that water, Didier Drogba?

Phoenix Rising was playing LA Galaxy II in the USL on Friday night and the home side at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex did not get off to a strong start. The visitors scored three first-half goals and held a two-goal advantage heading into the break. 

But then, deep into the second half, Didier Drogba stole a kid’s water bottle from the sideline and everything changed. Drogba immediately assisted a goal with a corner kick and seven minutes later put Phoenix ahead with a penalty kick as the Rising won 4-3.

So what the hell was in that water?

Here’s Drogba taking a drink of the young lad’s Dasani water bottle and immediately supplying the assist for the equalizer from Jason Johnson, who has perhaps the most American name ever but did score twice on the night.

Not only does Drogba steal the water, he then empties the rest of it onto his head in celebration. Let’s hope that kid’s mom bought him another drink, because Phoenix can get pretty dry — almost as dry as the humor in this post.

Apparently Drogba told the kid the team would score if he let him borrow the water. Not a bad price to pay for an equalizer. Chelsea might want to think about that next time it’s looking for a new striker.

The water hadn’t yet dried off Drogba’s head when he buried the match winner from the spot.

Just like other minor leagues in America, the United Soccer League doesn’t get much national attention. But the league is strong in local markets where USL teams are the only outlet for professional soccer action. A club-record 7,332 fans were at Friday night’s match.

Phoenix, which Didier Drogba owns, moved up to third in the Western Conference while the Galaxy remained in last place, still winless in eight matches this season.
