¡AY CADE! Cade Cowell misses clear chance to score in Liga MX debut with Chivas

Cade Cowell made his long-awaited debut with Liga MX club Chivas on Sunday against powerhouse Tigres UANL at the rainy Estadio Universitario.

The 20-year-old forward started the game on the bench and was substituted onto the pitch in the 63rd minute following Tigres’ opener, making quite an impact for the rojiblancos on the left flank.

Cowell was constantly in one-vs-one positions, taking advantage of space, and creating a handful of chances for his club in their effort to put the game level.

However, while the new Chivas No. 16 was continuously a threat in the attack, he also found himself in perhaps the two clearest opportunities for the Rebaño Sagrado to tie the game.

The first opportunity came just seven minutes after coming on, when he received a ball at the edge of the box but failed to put it on target. The rain did not help.

The second chance for Cowell came just two minutes later, when he came up short on a fiery header cross into the 18 yard box that spilled onto a goal kick.

Cowell continued to show promise in the attack despite the failed chances. He had this amazing play down the left wing, beating the opposing full back and setting up teammate Roberto Alvardo for a shot that ultimately ended up in the stands.

In short a promising but unlucky debut.

“[Cade Cowell] subbed in very well, he got acclimated quickly” said Chivas manager and former Argentina international Fernando Gago. “That’s what’s important” he added.

Cowell and Chivas will now shake off their 1-0 loss and prepare their upcoming league fixture against Club Tijuana this Friday, hoping to get their first three points of the season.
