Christian Pulisic scores Milan’s game-winner, reaches double-digit goals for his first time in four seasons

Christian Pulisic found the back of the net again for AC Milan on Sunday as he bagged the winner in the Italian side’s 1-0 victory vs. Empoli in Serie A at San Siro.

In the 40th minute Milan forward Noah Okafor found the American star open at the top of the box with a clever cutback pass.

Pulisic didn’t get the full contact on his shot he would’ve hoped for, but the soccer gods were on his side as a deflection off Empoli’s Sebastiano Luperto saw the ball trickle into the goal.

There was a lengthy VAR review to make sure Okafor was onside when he made his run, but in the end the goal stood and gave Milan all three points.

Pulisic goal vs Empoli

The transfer of Pulisic to Milan this past summer was truly a match made in heaven. The USMNT star scored just one goal for Chelsea last season. Sunday’s goal for Milan marked his 10th of the season across all competitions and his eighth in Serie A.

You have to go back to the 2019-20 season for the last time Pulisic reached double-digits in his goal tally. That was his breakout season with Chelsea and the iconic “lockdown Pulisic” era. He finished with 11 goals and 10 assists that season.

It’s only March and Pulisic now has 10 goals and seven assists. On pace for his best season of his career.

While Sunday’s game wasn’t Pulisic’s strongest performance in terms of “successful dribbles, duels won” and other stats like that, he’ll be remembered most for bagging the game-winner.

This marks two games in-a-row for Milan with a goal after poking in a goal on Thursday in the Europa League vs. Slavia Praha.

Pulisic will have two more games with Milan — the second leg vs. Slavia on Thursday and a Serie A match vs. Verona next Sunday — before he returns to USMNT duty for the Concacaf Nations League.
