Birmingham City fans chant ‘U-S-A’ after American defender Auston Trusty scores twice in 3-0 victory

American defender Auston Trusty was the hero for EFL Championship side Birmingham City on Saturday after scoring a brace in his team’s 3-0 victory vs. Bristol City.

The 24-year-old from Media, Pennsylvania, isn’t known for scoring goals. Trusty had three goals across 181 games in his club career coming into the game. Saturday’s clash with Bristol City will be one that the Arsenal loanee never forgets.

Auston Trusty Goals vs. Bristol City

Trusty’s first goal came in the third minute when he got on the end of a cross and delivered a towering header. At first it looked like the ball had been cleared off the line, however the goal would stand.

Then just 40 minutes later another Trusty header would cause Bristol City problems. Birmingham City had a free kick from distance and sent the ball into the penalty area. The American defender rose highest with his header hitting the post but then he poked in his own rebound.

Birmingham City won the game 3-0 and now sit 14th in the EFL Championship.

Trusty was greeted with chants of ‘U-S-A’ after the game from the Birmingham supporters.

Arsenal paid the Colorado Rapids $2 million for Trusty in January 2022. He would stay with the Rapids until July when he was loaned to Birmingham City. Trusty has played the full 90 minutes of all 14 games for his new club this season.

Trusty has played for the USMNT Under 23 team twice but has yet to receive a call up to the senior squad.
