The Netherlands and the Eredivisie are very familiar places for Mexican players, and the 2022-23 season, for one, will not be an exception.
With the recent transfers of Santiago Gimémez to Feyenoord and Jorge Sánchez to Ajax, we will have four Mexicans playing in the Netherlands first division and for three different teams, all capable of fighting for the title.
Hence, it will be an exciting campaign for Mexicans in the Dutch Eredivisie, and by the looks of it, each player has already started to make an impact for his respective team.
Mexicans In Eredivisie This Weekend
Santiago Giménez (Feyenoord) — Goal and Assist
El Bebote is already turning heads in the Eredivisie.
The 21-year-old is slowly getting minutes at his new club, and after just two games the Mexican is already making a difference for the team in the Eredivisie.
The striker was subbed on at the 63rd minute and sealed Feyenoord’s victory by scoring the second goal and assisting the third in a 4-0 win over FC Emmen.

What a tank.
Giménez is yet to start a game, but with performances like these, he’ll be doing so in no time.
Jorge Sánchez (Ajax) — Debut
After signing with the club on Aug. 10 and being on the bench last weekend, the Mexican made his Eredivisie debut in Ajax’s away win at Utrecht.
Sánchez was subbed on at the 39th minute, replacing the injured Devyne Rensch.

The right back had a shaky start, especially going into the attack, but managed to turn his game around defensively and ultimately helped his team get the result.

Not a bad start for the 23-year-old.
Edson Álvarez (Ajax) — Assist and Player Of The Match
Edson Álvarez is the best Mexican in Europe.
The 24-year-old put up another class performance and was vital in Ajax’s 2-0 win against Utrecht last Saturday — providing an assist along the way (his second this season).

Edson Álvarez sumó su segunda asistencia de la temporada en 4 partidos disputados. Hoy, ante Utrecht sirvió para la anotación de Berghuis en jugada a balón parado, el mexicano peinó el balón para la posterior anotación del neerlandés.

El Machín is becoming a boss at Ajax.
The midfielder has played every single minute of the matches he’s played in and will most likely continue to do so for the rest of the season.
Erick Gutiérrez (PSV) — Assist
Erick Gutiérrez has slowly become of one PSV’s most important players.
The midfielder bagged an assist in PSV’s 6-1 victory over Excelsior on Sunday, playing 45 minutes.

Although his primarily role is to distribute and organize the team’s buildup, Gutiérrez has slowly become more decisive in the last third, taking the ball to the top of the box, scoring, assisting and being a dangerous asset in set pieces.
The only negative thing starting the Mexican’s season was missing out on the Champions League after losing the last round of qualifiers against Rangers, but even with no UCL, there’s reason to believe that this will be Guti’s best season in the Eredivisie yet.
