U.S. Soccer to make announcement on Gregg Berhalter’s future in the next week

An announcement on the future for the United States men's national team and head coach Gregg Berhalter is planned for next week announced FOX Sports. The Berhalter announcement is expected to come in the mid-week.

The news of an announcement has fans hopeful that Berhalter’s time in charge of the USMNT is coming to an end. Fans have been calling on United States Soccer Federation Sporting Director Matt Crocker to relieve Berhalter of his duties.

Crocker, who was named USSF Sporting Director in April 2023, was responsible for the re-hiring of Berhalter after his contract expired following the 2022 World Cup.

Berhalter’s second stint in charge has been inconsistent, lackluster and the latest failure at the 2024 Copa América to get out of an easy group with Bolivia, Panama and Uruguay has piled the pressure on Crocker to make a decision.

Following the USMNT becoming the first Copa América host in history to not advance from the group, Crocker released a statement.

"Our tournament performance fell short of our expectations. We must do better," Crocker said in a statement. "We will be conducting a comprehensive review of our performance in Copa America and how best to improve the team and results as we look towards the 2026 World Cup.”

Fans have been voicing their displeasure about the current state of the USMNT. Supporters’ groups American Outlaws and Barra 76 have demanded a head coaching change.

With the 2026 World Cup on home soil rapidly approaching it’s become increasingly evident that Berhalter isn’t the right man to lead the USMNT. Anything other than Berhalter’s firing this week will be inexcusable from Crocker and U.S. Soccer.
