Ronaldo had a lot to say about everything in the soccer world, especially on the outcome of the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
Cristiano Ronaldo has weighed in on the highly controversial 2024 Ballon d'Or debate, expressing his belief that it was unjust for Vinícius Jr. to miss out on the prestigious award.
The Brazilian winger, who had an outstanding season with Real Madrid, was expected by many to be among the top contenders for the coveted honor. However, Manchester City and Spain’s Rodri ultimately claimed the trophy, sparking controversy in the soccer community.

Ronaldo, while receiving the award for Best Middle East Player at the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards, emphasized that Vinícius' performances throughout the season were more than deserving of the recognition.
“Vinicius Jr. deserved to win the [Ballon d’Or], it was unfair in my opinion, I say it here in front of everyone,” said Ronaldo.
“They gave [the award] to Rodri, he deserved too, but I think they should give it to Vinicius because he won the UEFA Champions League and scored in the final.”
“The other issues for me are not important, if you deserve the award [you should be given it]”
“But, the [Ballon d’Or] gala always does the same thing… this is why I love Globe Soccer and continue to attend this gala because [they] do honest awards!” he added.

Vinicius Jr., who was also present at the awards, had the chance to react to Ronaldo’s words later in the gala, saying if Ronaldo believes he’s the best in the world, then he’s going to believe it. The Real Madrid star won the awards for Best Forward and Best Player.
“If Cristiano [Ronaldo] says I’m the best player, I will believe it. He’s my idol,” said Vini.
