Catarina Macario Delivers Game-Winning Assist In Lyon’s Comeback Vs. Bayern

One day after being named to Vlatko Andonovski’s USWNT squad for a pair of friendlies against Australia at the end of the month, 22-year-old midfielder Catarina Macario played a huge role in Lyon’s comeback victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Bayern took the lead in the 25th minute at Groupama Stadium after Kadeisha Buchanan scored an own goal with Carina Wenninger lurking.

But Lyon found an equalizer five minutes after halftime when Macario’s free kick wasn’t properly cleared by Bayern, eventually leading to a close-range finish from Janice Cayman.

Four minutes from full-time, Lyon hit a dramatic winner with Macario again providing the service — this time a corner kick that was directly met by Amandine Henry.

Lyon moved top of Group D with nine points from three games while Bayern is in second with four.

Next up for Lyon is a top-of-the-table clash in Division 1 Féminine against rival PSG. PSG was rocked this morning by the arrest of midfielder Aminata Diallo, who allegedly arranged an assault on teammate Kheira Hamraoui to secure more playing time.
