Smith, Swanson and Rodman announce their new nickname as ‘Triple Espresso’

The United States women’s national team front three of Sophia Smith, Mallory Swanson and Trinity Rodman have proposed a name for their fearsome trio.

While media have tossed around “The Trident” as a potential title, the three USA stars appeared on TODAY and have said they are proposing the name “Triple Espresso.”

USWNT Triple Espresso nickname

According to Rodman the “Triple Espresso” nickname is in a trial phase right now to see if the fans like the idea. At this point the trio can be called whatever they want as they’ve dominated in these Summer Games.

Each player has scored three goals, contributing to nine of the 11 scored by the USWNT in France. Mallory Swanson assisted Lynn Williams in the group stage game vs. Germany, meaning that one of the Triple Espresso have either scored or assisted 10 of the 11 goals in the campaign.

To think this is the same front three that only managed one goal in 180 minutes against Mexico and Costa Rica prior to the Games. They’ve proved the doubters wrong and couldn’t have hit their stride at a better time.

The youthful boost of the trio has been the shot of energy the team didn’t have in Tokyo when the USWNT settled for bronze. None of “Triple Espresso” were called up for the last Olympics.

Swanson (26), Rodman (22) and Smith (turns 24 on Saturday) have proven that they are the future of the national team’s attack. In honor of that here’s a look at every goal they’ve scored in the 2024 Olympics so far.

They’ll be expected to net one or two more in the gold medal game vs. Brazil on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET.
