PSG play Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League tomorrow, after losing 3-2 to Liverpool last game. It's a crucial game and they have to win. But they've gotten a lot of criticism as of late and people are questioning whether or not they can even win tomorrow. And Neymar, who suffers from giving people such high expectations, is not exempt of the criticism. During the press conference he spoke about how he has to stop dwelling over his performance in the World Cup, can't keep crying about it, and has to start playing better with PSG.
“I agree with the coach. I'm not 100 per cent, nobody is at the beginning of the season,” he said, even though he's scored 7 goals and given 2 assist in 7 Ligue 1 games thus far. He then went on to talk about how his position has changed, he started playing a No 10 role rather than a winger and went on to say “It's different. I like to play there. I can dictate the match, help my team-mates.” He later added: “Messi plays like that at Barcelona. My function was different there. Here, I like to have the ball. I'm very happy to play like that.”
But Neymar's keen self-analysis, belated epiphany, and promise to deliver more during tomorrow's match are not among the most interesting news revolving Neymar this week. Well then what is, you ask? Rumor has it that after being out fashioned by Dani Alves during Paris Fashion Week, who wore a pair of black high heels (presumably his wife's, Spanish model Joana Sanz), Neymar felt the need to step it up a notch and comically retaliate by painting his toenails pink. Painting his toenails pink, did I read that right?
Yes, yes you did. Pink toenails. Who knows the validity of that statement. But that isn't even the most ludicrous part. The most ludicrous part is that is that regardless, rumors of it sufficed to make it trendy! Yes die-hard Neymar fans, including young boys, in Paris are starting to paint their toenails pink as well. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery… Does this just prove to show how much of a brand Neymar is? That he could quite literally make anything trendy, no matter how absurd the act? Maybe, he'll make recycling look cool next.
