Just Believe It: Ted Lasso Gets Official Nike Jersey

AFC Richmond is coming back to the Premier League in Season 3 of “Ted Lasso,” and the Greyhounds are getting the Premier League treatment with a new kit. A Ted Lasso Nike jersey was revealed Monday for the Apple TV+ series, which recently begun production for Season 3.

In “Ted Lasso,” the fictional London club AFC Richmond’s jerseys featured fake kit manufacturer Verani Sports for the first two seasons, much like how the fictional airline Dubai Air was a major sponsor. After the club was relegated in the first season, Ted Lasso helped the team win promotion back to the Premier League in Season 2.

With big Premier League money head its way, Richmond appears to have upgraded its kit deal, dropping Verani for Nike.

This partnership seems like a win all around. The streaming series gets to show off a little more realism — Nike also sponsors EPL clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool — while Nike can (hopefully) sell overpriced jerseys to adoring Ted Lasso fans.

It even got Ted Lasso to say “kit” instead of jersey.

Personally, I love that they’re keeping Bantr as the shirt sponsor instead of selling it to some gambling website like so many other Premier League clubs. I’m just surprised no one has actually created the Bantr dating app. Please, someone do that soon so I can meet my own Rebecca Welton or Sam Obisanya.

“Ted Lasso” appears to be focusing more and more on Premier League realism for its third and final season. Last year, the show signed a $680,000 licensing deal with the Premier League to use its footage, logos, kits and trophies.

Now we wait to see how West Ham and Umbro respond.
