Yesterday, Barcelona took care of business against Athletic Bilbao. Real Madrid dropping points in this very embarradding manner puts Barca up eight points in La Liga. Barcelona have 28 points to Real Madrid's 20 through 10 games.
Before the season began, it looked as if Real Madrid would just destroy everyone from start to finish in Spain, but they find themselves third in the table and in need of some luck to get back into the title race. They will probablt be right there in the end, but they can't afford any more slip-ups against minnows like Girona.
Newly-promoted Girona, meanwhile, sit in 12th place with 12 points, six above the drop zone.
