Bob Bradley Is Getting His Chance To Coach In A Major League

With Premier League side Swansea City languishing in 17th place following a dismal start that’s yielded four points from seven matches, the Swans have acted quickly to fire manager Francesco Guidolin and replace him with former USMNT boss Bob Bradley.

Bradley was employed by French Ligue 2 club Le Havre, who sit a disappointing eleventh in the Ligue 2 table in Bradley’s first full-year in charge. Having been appointed in November of last year, Bradley led Le Havre to a fourth-place finish last season, narrowly missing out on promotion.

Although this will be Bradley’s first experience in one of Europe’s major leagues, the 58-year-old’s previous experience includes hugely successful stints as manager of the Chicago Fire, the USMNT and Norway’s Stabaek.

Bradley has reportedly beat out former Manchester United assistant Ryan Giggs to the job. Swansea City is owned by American majority shareholders Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan.

Bradley becomes the first American manager in the history of the Premier League. He’ll experience something of a trial by fire in his opening fixture, an away trip to London to face Arsenal on October 15th.

That match is followed by a home fixture against Watford on October 22nd. Although the EPL is only seven weeks in, the task facing Bradley is clear enough: keep Swansea City in the Premier League.
