Barcelona To Go On Strike For One Day Following Violence Surrounding Catalan Independence Referendum

Barcelona have announced the club will join a Catalonia-wide one-day strike that will take place Tuesday, Oct. 3.

A release on Barcelona's website said the strike was called by a group called "Taula per la Democracia" (Table for Democracy), which is made up of variuos Catalan trade unions.

None of the Barcelona senior or youth teams will train on Tuesday, and the Camp Nou will be closed to tourists.

The strike has been called following Sunday's vote on a Catalan independence referendum, which devolved into violence between riot police and protesters.  The police had been deployed to polling stations in an appempt to disrupt the voting. The Associated Press reported that more than 750 people had been injured in clashes with police.

Officials are now arguing over the results of the vote, with one Catalan official reportedly claiming 90 percent of the votes cast were for Catalan independence, and the central Spanish government calling the independence referendum an "attack on the rule of law".

Barcelona's 3-0 win over Las Palmas was played behind closed doors at the Camp Nou because of the violence.
