Man City, Chelsea and Newcastle secure Champions League spots in final Premier League matchday

LONDON, May 25 (Reuters) - Manchester City and Chelsea both secured their Champions League places with victories on the final day of the Premier League season and Newcastle United joined them despite stumbling to a last-day defeat at home to Everton on Sunday.

City, whose season has generally been one to forget, only really required a draw at Fulham but cruised to a 2-0 victory which meant they finished in third place.

Arsenal stun mighty Barcelona in Women’s Champions League final with shocking 1-0 victory

LISBON — Arsenal forward Stina Blackstenius struck a late winner as the London team shocked holders Barcelona 1-0 on Saturday to claim their second Women's Champions League title and first in 18 years to the delight of their 5,000 travelling fans.

Arsenal withstood a flurry of Barca chances before Blackstenius broke the deadlock in the 75th minute.

The Sweden international latched onto fellow substitute Beth Mead's reverse pass in a crowded area and fired a low diagonal shot past goalkeeper Catalina Coll at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

UEFA apologizes to Tottenham for running out of medals during Europa League final ceremony

UEFA has apologized  for running out of winners medals during the Europa League final trophy ceremony on Wednesday after more Tottenham Hotspur players than expected lined up to receive their individual prizes.

Spurs captain Son Heung-min and two other players, the last to line up for individual medals, were left empty-handed after their team beat Manchester United 1-0 to win the club's fourth European title on Wednesday.

Nottingham Forest’s Awoniyi needed emergency surgery after colliding with goal post

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has had urgent surgery for an abdominal injury after he clattered into a post during their 2-2 Premier League draw with Leicester City at the weekend, Forest said in a statement on Tuesday.

Substitute Awoniyi rejoined the game after receiving treatment but was limping around for the last 10 minutes.

LEICESTER — Referee David Webb suffered a head injury and was replaced following a delay of several minutes during the first half of Leicester City's Premier League game against Southampton on Saturday.
