Jürgen Damm, one of the fastest footballers in the world, is coming to America. The Mexican winger signed a deal to join Atlanta United after Damm’s contract with Tigres UANL expires at the end of the 2019-20 season, the Five Stripes announced Wednesday.

More importantly, Damm announced his move with the best dance moves I’ve ever seen. I cannot stop watching this video with a goofy-ass grin on my face.

The NWSL returns June 27 with its Challenge Cup, the first major pro team sports league to resume play in the U.S. since the novel coronavirus pandemic shut down sports. While MLS returns July 8, the first men’s team sports league to return to North America will actually take place south of the border. So what is this Copa por México tournament anyway?

Liga MX announced the cancellation of the 2020 Clausura for both the men’s and women’s leagues on Friday, citing public health and scheduling restrictions amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

MEXICO CITY — Eight soccer players at Mexico's Santos Laguna club have tested positive for coronavirus but none of them are displaying any symptoms, the Mexican governing body, Liga MX, said on Wednesday.

The Mexican league was suspended on March 15 due to the coronavirus outbreak and officials have not indicated when it would restart.

The best MLS All-Star Game of all time has been canceled amid the coronavirus pandemic, and the disappointment levels are at a staggering all-time high. The festivities — scheduled to take place at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles — included a return of the Skills Challenge on July 28 and match between the best of MLS and Liga MX on July 29.

MLS announced the cancellation of the event on Twitter.

FIFA has proposed that teams should be allowed to make up to five substitutions per match, instead of the usual three, as a temporary measure to help cope with potential fixture congestion in the aftermath of the novel coronavirus outbreak. 

Football has been at a standstill since mid-March but many leagues and federations are still hoping to complete the season but to do so they would have to cram fixtures into a shorter period than usual once play re-starts.

Major League Soccer and Liga MX would benefit from joining forces into what would amount to a North American super league in the eyes of Santos Laguna and Atlas owner Alejandro Irarragorri. 

Irarragorri offered a statement after Liga MX, the top soccer league in Mexico, announced it would be suspending promotion and relegation for the next five years.

Carlos Vela, among others, is not happy about it, even if it could be a precursor to his current league combining with Liga MX. 

When North American sports leagues return to action after the coronavirus crisis, questions are sure to linger over whether the fans will be willing, or have the resources, to pack stadiums as they once did, sports analysts have said.
