Having watched Minnesota United on the turf field at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis for the last two years — often complete with the white football field markings and the giant University of Minnesota “M” at the center — I could only laugh at those with any vested interest in a crucial Premier League encounter between Tottenham and Manchester City today.
While some will blame the NFL game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Philadelphia Eagles which took place yesterday afternoon, the truth is that the fault lies entirely at the feet of Spurs brass, whose New White Hart Lane project has fallen desperately behind schedule.
Spurs lost the match 1-0 with Riyad Mahrez registering the game’s lone goal in the sixth minute.
While Erik Lamela missed a glorious chance to equalize for Spurs in the 80th minute. Yes, the ball did slightly bobble on the awful pitch.
So close Lamela! pic.twitter.com/Psnx719qnw

But let’s go to the Twitter jokes, and you’ll get the gist of them very quickly.

Sorry guys, we appreciate your requests but can confirm we won't be offering odds on Sergio Aguero (or any other player for that matter) to score a touchdown in #TOTMCI

A poor 1st QTR for the Hotspurs so far. Can the key centre cornerback H.Kane snap the ball to the downfield end zone?! #TOTMCI pic.twitter.com/1gRssxRNAu
