USWNT announce friendly vs. Mexico in pivotal Olympic tune-up game

The United States women’s national team will be looking for revenge against Mexico as the two sides will meet again in Harrison, New Jersey, on July 13. The game will take place 12 days before the USWNT’s opening game in the Paris Olympics vs. either Morocco or Zambia.

July’s friendly will be a special occasion as the game will also feature a reunion of the iconic 1999 USWNT Women’s World Cup team who lifted the title at the Rose Bowl in front of over 90,000 fans with 40 million tuning in.

The reunion will be a 25th anniversary of the women who forever changed the game in this country.

“The fans will get the chance to show their support for the team before they head to France while also celebrating our 1999 Women’s World Cup Team. This is a group of women who did so much for the sport and the impact of that team and tournament is still being felt 25 years later, especially as we bid for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup,” said U.S. Soccer President and member of the 1999 team Cindy Parlow Cone.

FIFA has yet to announce the hosts of the 2027 Women’s World Cup as the U.S. and Mexico have a joint bid.

The July friendly vs. Mexico will be one of two games for the squad prior to the Paris Olympics. An opponent has yet to be revealed for the second game in July.

The game against Mexico will be a shot at revenge for the USWNT. Mexico stunned the Americans in the Concacaf W Gold Cup group stage in February with an impressive 2-0 victory. The defeat marked the USWNT’s first home loss to a Concacaf opponent in 24 years.

Will Mexico spoil the party again? Or will Emma Hayes’ new USWNT prove they’re ready to take on the best in the world?

The USWNT will face Morocco/Zambia, Germany and Australia in the Olympics group stage.
