Messi, who had his MLS season cut short with Inter Miami after an early exit in the playoffs, is expected the join the festivities in Barcelona on Nov. 29.
Lionel Messi: "i would like to return to living in Barcelona"
The Argentine’s ‘reunion’ with the club also inclined Messi to speak on the present of Barcelona, praising the job from the club under new manager Hansi Flick and even giving fans an ounce of hope over a possible return to the Camp Nou.
“My kids were born here. I’ve spent my whole life living there. I feel I belong to Barcelona. My family and I always think about the possibility of returning to live there one day” said Messi.
“My children, my wife and I miss our life there a lot. We miss our friends” he added.
Messi, who left Barcelona in 2021, is not surprised over Barcelona’s good form this season under Flick, highlighting the German’s ability to makeshift the squad’s financial problems by bringing talented players up from the academy.
"I see Flick's Barcelona as spectacular, and it doesn’t surprise me because this isn’t something new it’s been happening forever, or at least since I arrived at Barcelona at 13 years old” said the Argentine.
“I think it’s spectacular that the young players have been getting opportunities over the past couple of years. When they’re given opportunities and confidence, they respond like this because they know the club better than anyone, and they’ve been accustomed to playing this way since they were kids” he said.
The 37-year-old, who arrived to MLS with Inter Miami in 2023, has one year remaining on his contract. No reports indicate he’s under negotiations for a renewal.
