FC Cincinnati's Álvaro Barreal scores a must-see winner in the US Open Cup

FC Cincinnati winger Álvaro Barreal is one of the few who prefers to crush our “cupset” dreams. Fortunately for us, he lessened the blow with a goal so technically brilliant, we’re just glad we got to see it.

In the 70th minute, with the home side leading 1-0 against the visiting Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, Luciano Acosta floated a cross out to Barreal at the top of the box from a corner kick. With a defender flying out to meet him, the Argentine lined up the shot and struck his volley perfectly, laced with power and precision.

Pittsburgh’s unsighted keeper, Jahmali Waite, could only watch as the ball curled and nestled into the top corner of his net.

Cincinnati went on to win 3-1, but this goal is what the match will be best remembered for.

Pat Noonan’s side has been incredible this season, leading the MLS Supporters’ Shield by eight points, and has now advanced to the U.S. Open Cup Semi-finals. Where they will face the winner of Wednesday's match between the Birmingham Legion FC and Inter Miami CF.
