The Jersey Report: Barcelona Released Its New Kit, And It's Way Better Than Last Season's Nightmare

Another week, another batch of cool jerseys dropped in the soccer world for the 2022-23 season.

Barcelona is in the headlines after unveiling a very decent, Olympic-vibe kit for next season, one that luckily is letting us forget the monstrosity they donned in the last campaign.

Puma also had a busy week releasing home kits for several national teams, including those going to the World Cup (Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, Switzerland and Uruguay) and those watching it on TV (Italy, Egypt, Paraguay, among others). The German brand didn't forget about the women's game and presented a few designs we will see in the Euro 2022.

Our trip will also take us to Spain, England, Mexico and Nicaragua.

Here is our review of the most relevant kit releases of the week.

Barcelona 2022-23 Home Jersey

The Catalans bring to the table a jersey that adds dark blue stripes to its traditional blaugrana combo. The shirt also has a subtle pattern in the fabric that, according to the creative minds behind the concept, serves to commemorate 30 years since the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

We are not going to lie, but the template Nike is using this season looks a little clunky with the stripes, and the Spotify logo – having its debut as a Barça sponsor – gives the impression of being a little bit off-centered. However, the outcome is pretty decent at the end of the day and way better than the nightmare we witnessed in the 2021-22 season.

Good riddance!

Italy 2022 Home Jersey + Puma's World Cup Collection

There is no need to dive deep into these shirts since we already did a post after they were launched. Most of the collection has a retro vibe and design elements that remind us of past achievements of those countries.

In Italy's case, the quadrant design is a nod to the four World Cups won during its history. Sadly, this year there is no World Cup for La Azzurra.

Here you can find more.

Puma Women's Euro 2022 Jerseys

The Big Cat also reserved a slot in its agenda to unveil the jerseys Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Iceland would be wearing in the Euro 2022. The kits are basically the same that you will see in the men's teams, but with a floral pattern added.

High-end British retail Liberty helped with the idea, and the outcome is miles better than the original kits.

Chivas 2022-23 Home Jersey

Staying with Puma, the German brand also delivered a very classy playera for Club Guadalajara. Here are the details

Athletic Club 2022-23 Home Jersey

If I were born in Spain, the Basques would be my team. So, it's beautiful. End of the discussion.

Villarreal 2022-23 Home Jersey

Do you feel Villarreal always drops the same jersey year after year? Us, too. Anyway, this is the timeless look Joma created for the Yellow Submarine new campaign.

Stoke City 2022-23 Jerseys

Next, we hop over to England for a solid collection that Macron made for Championship side Stoke City. The third kit with a tricolor sash is probably the best of the batch, but the away jersey with embossed crosses is pretty nifty, too.

Nicaragua 2022-23 Jerseys

Our last stop is in Concacaf, where Mexican brand Keuka created a really cool set of shirts for Nicaragua. The home kit has a poem by the great Ruben Darío printed on it, the away model has an oversized "N" in the chest, and the third has a frigging smoky volcano on it that I'm willing to trace down and bring to my collection.
