Scorer Pulls Off Simone Biles-Esque Celebration Only To Have Goal Disallowed By VAR

Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City played to a 0-0 draw to open the A-League campaign on Saturday, but it was a goal that was was called back that drew our attention.

Elvis Kamsoba, a 23-year-old Burundi international who has already played for six different clubs, thought he had scored his first A-League goal in the 56th minute for Victory. Played in brilliantly by former Sweden international Ola Toivonen, Kamsoba slid his first-time shot past onrushing keeper Dean Bouzanis.

Kamsoba celebrated like an Olympic gymnast, doing his best Simone Biles impersonation flipping four times on his way to the corner flag to celebrate with the home fans.

It was arguably the best goal celebration of the year — but it was for naught.

The “McDonald’s VAR check” ultimately brought the goal back, as Kamsoba was marginally offside.

Gotta feel bad for Kamsoba, but it was the right call in the end. Hopefully he gets another chance to score this season and is able to replicate his great celebration at another time, perhaps when the VAR is too busy chowing down on McDonald's to call him offside.
